ABOUT US
About Us l A Message From the President l Misson & Aims l Officers

Soroptimist International was founded in 1921 in Oakland, California and is a global organization with members in more that 125 countries and territories worldwide. Soroptimist International of Sacramento was founded from the Oakland Club and we are beginning our 95th year.

Soroptimist is a coined word from the Latin meaning "Best for Women". We are women working together to help other women be their best. Our mission is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Each year we are able to provide funding for our service projects through our fundraising efforts. Our members participate in the Edible Garden Tour in September, See's Candy Store in December, Crab Fiesta in February, and the Big Day of Giving in May. We provide mentoring and training for young women, plus numerous scholarships, grants and awards.

The theme for this year is "Reimaging Service and Leadership". We live in an ever changing world where some problems and social issues have improved greatly, but many other issues in our communities and the world are still plaguing us. But the way we go about making change has evolved, along with our society. If you wish to be part of an organization that makes valuable contributions and are interested in volunteer opportunities, wanting to meet new women or our mission speaks to you, please feel free to contact me or another member. You are also invited to attend a luncheon meeting to see if it is a fit for you.

It is my privilege to be the 95th President of SIS for 2017-2018.  I look forward to supporting our mission to improve the lives of women and girls together with all of you.

Debbie Rubens
President 2017-2018
